Job Openings - Food Production Positions 

We currently have two positions open. Both start as part time and become full-time in April, 2025:

Production Manager (p/t becoming f/t in April ‘25) (posted November, 2024)
Opportunity to join the team at Tootie’s Tempeh, a Biddeford, Maine-based worker-owned cooperative and sustainable producer of tempeh (a fermented, organic, and regionally sourced plant protein). We are seeking a highly organized and experienced manager to run daily production operations in our facility. This role is responsible for managing the entire production process, ensuring efficiency, quality, and adherence to health and food safety standards. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a strong background in food production, planning, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily food production operations, ensuring smooth workflows, high productivity, and development/adherence to production schedules.

  • Manage and lead production teams, providing guidance, training, and support to foster a safe, positive, and productive work environment.

  • Monitor product quality and enforce food safety standards in accordance with industry regulations and company policies.

  • Optimize processes and equipment to reduce waste, increase efficiency, and ensure consistent product quality and meeting production goals.

  • Develop and maintain production plans and schedules, coordinating with supply chain, quality control, and maintenance teams to ensure timely production.

  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement improvement strategies to meet production goals.

  • Handle equipment and facility maintenance in coordination with the engineering and maintenance teams, ensuring minimal downtime.

  • Collaborate with management and co-workers on strategic planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in the development of new tempeh products.

Qualifications: 2 to 3 years of experience in food production management or a similar role within the food manufacturing or restaurant industry; strong knowledge of food safety regulations, HACCP, and GMP standards; proven experience in team leadership, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills; proficiency in production planning and scheduling; strong and creative problem-solving skills and a focus on continuous improvement.

Production Assistant (p/t becoming f/t in April ‘25) (posted November, 2024)

Great opportunity to become a member of the team at Tootie’s Tempeh, a Biddeford, Maine-based worker-owned cooperative and sustainable producer of tempeh, a fermented, organic, and locally sourced plant protein. This production position supports the Operations Manager and other Production Assistants in the tempeh-making and packaging processes. Duties include, but are not limited to, running equipment for cooking, drying, mixing, vacuum-sealing, heat/cool treatment, drying, packaging and labeling as well as clean-up/washing/sanitizing. Prior food production experience and knowledge of food safety very helpful. A passion for healthy & sustainable food and fermentation and an interest in coops important. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Opportunity to be involved in product development and to become a worker-owner. Position could take on more responsibility in April 2025.
